Writer Mariah Smith apologizes to Priyanka, Nick for insensitive article on The Cut

Writer Mariah Smith has finally spoken up and apologized for her article titled ‘Is Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Love for Real?’ which was published on 4 December on The Cut, days after their wedding in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She tweeted a screenshot of her apology on 8 December.

It stated, “I want to sincerely apologize to Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and to the readers I offended and hurt with my words. I do not condone racism, xenophobia, or sexism. I take full responsibility for what I wrote, and I was wrong. I am truly sorry.”

The Cut, an online website from New York Magazine, updated, then later removed the article from its archives with an apology on 5 December. “The whole piece missed the mark. There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgement. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick,” their statement said.

The actress, who was busy with work commitments in India, remained nonplussed, even as her brother-in-law Joe Jonas, his fiancée Sophie Turner and other personalities from the Indian industry spoke out in support of the couple.

She told the Hindustan Times newspaper, “I don’t even want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. These kind of random things can’t disturb it.”
