Won’t let any other film release with Thackeray, says secretary of Shiv Sena Chitrapat Shakha

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s biopic, Thackeray, is all set to release in theatres on 25 January 2019. The film will be clashing with Kangana Ranaut-starrer, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and Emraan Hashmi led Cheat India.

Now, Bala Lokare, general secretary of Shiv Sena’s film wing called Shiv Sena Chitrapat Shakha, has threatened dire consequences if any other film is released with Thackeray. He made the statement on his Facebook page where he wrote, “The film Thackeray is releasing on 25 January. If any other film is released on that day, we don’t let it run.”

Shiv Sena is known for disrupting events and film releases in the past through the use of violence. The Pakistani cricket team hasn’t been able to play in Mumbai after the 1993 bomb blasts because of the opposition from the party.

Directed by Abhijit Panse, Thackeray sees Nawazuddin Siddiqui essay the titular role. The film will be released in Hindi and Marathi. Two separate trailers of the film were released yesterday at a grand event at a multiplex in Mumbai.

The trailers have boldly shown Thackeray’s stand against south Indians who were believed to eat up jobs that belonged to the local population in the past. The film also shows the late founder’s views on the Babri Masjid demolition and the 1993 Mumbai riots.

Meanwhile, the film has also run into trouble with the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), which has asked them to chop off three ‘controversial’ scenes. Sanjay Raut, the producer and writer of the film, has plainly refused to comply with the CBFC’s suggestions.

It has not even been 24 hours since the trailer released and the film is already in the news for the wrong reasons.
