The first images of actress Priyanka Chopra and singer-actor Nick Jones were finally revealed exclusively by People magazine today. The American publication put the couple on the cover showcasing their two ceremonies held in Jodhpur, Rajasthan on 1 and 2 December.
The first one, on 1 December, was a Christian ceremony officiated by Nick’s father, Paul Kevin Jonas, Sr at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. His three brothers, Kevin Jr, Joe and Frankie were groomsmen.
Both Priyanka and Nick were outfitted by Ralph Lauren. They made their first public appearance together at 2017’s Met Gala wearing designs by him. They were engaged this July after he proposed on Priyanka’s 36th birthday. Nick wore a custom Ralph Lauren Purple Label double-breasted black tuxedo with black dress shoes. The tuxedo included a personal touch as a small lace piece with ‘My Jaan (My Life)’ sewn on it was added into its lapel.
The bride was one of the lucky few to get a custom-made gown by the American designer. She is only the fourth bride in 50 years to wear Ralph Lauren. The designer had previously designed wedding dresses for his daughter, his daughter-in-law, and niece.
According to People magazine, the embroidery on the wedding dress took 1,826 hours to finish. “Chopra wore a hand-beaded and hand-embroidered dress featuring floral and scroll motifs, lace-effect tulle appliqués, scalloped sleeves and a high-neck collar. Underneath the long-sleeve gown was a strapless column dress made up of 2,380,000 mother of pearl sequins. Chopra completed her look with long tulle veil that reached 75 feet and custom Jimmy Choo shoes.”
Priyanka’s mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, walked her down the aisle. And for a personal touch for the bride, eight words and phrases were hand-stitched on her gown from Jonas’s full name, Nicholas Jerry Jonas, the date of their wedding, and the names of parents, Madhu and Ashok. To check off the old and borrowed elements of her dress, Priyanka has a piece of her mother-in-law’s wedding dress (also lace) added to hers.
The rest of the wedding party including the 12 bridesmaids, 12 groomsmen, four flower girls and one ring bearer also wore Ralph Lauren.
On 2 December, Nick and Priyanka were married anew in a Hindu ceremony, again at the Taj property. For her bridal lehenga, Priyanka chose Sabyasachi who created a custom outfit for her. Around 110 embroiderers from Kolkata took 3,720 hours to sew the bridal outfit which contained hand-cut organza flowers, French knots in silk floss and layers of intricate thread designs. Like her white wedding dress, Priyanka asked that her parents’ names, as well as, Nick’s be sewn into the lehenga in Hindi.
She accessorized the lehenga with Mughal jewellery of “uncut diamonds, emeralds and Japanese cultured pearls in 22 karat gold all by Chopard”.
“For the Indian wedding, I wore Sabyasachi,” Chopra told People. “I always knew I wanted a red traditional silhouette for my wedding but Sabya brought in incredible French embroidery to the mix and with incredible jewellery and Western-inspired veil it was just such an amalgamation of who I am.”
Nick was also outfitted by Sabyasachi for the ceremony with a hand-quilted silk sherwani, paired with a hand-embroidered chikan dupatta and a chanderi tissue safa. His diamond necklace was from Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery Collection.
Their footwear for the day was provided by another famous name, Christian Louboutin. While Nick wore gold loafers, Priyanka’s shoes were designed by the French shoe designer.
After their wedding, the couple flew to Delhi where they plan on hosting friends and family in a grand reception in the capital.
