The Tashkent Files on Lal Bahadur Shastri to be released on 12 April

Hours after the makers of PM Narendra Modi announced the shift of its release date from 12 April to 5 April, news about release of The Tashkent Files on 12 April has come in.

The makers announced the release date on the first poster of the film.

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is based on the mysterious death of India’s former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent in Uzbekistan after signing the Tashkent Declaration which was a peace agreement between India and Pakistan in January 1966. The agreement marked the end of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Doubts over Shastri’s sudden death were raised then and even later. There have been various conspiracy theories about his death. His wife Lalita Shastri had alleged that he was poisoned. She later wrote a poem on her husband’s death in Krant ML Verma’s poetry book, Lalita Ke Aansoo.

The Tashkent Files stars Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty.
