Suniel Shetty reunites with Priyadarshan for period thriller Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham

Actor Suniel Shetty is returning to acting with the upcoming multi-lingual film, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham [The Lion of The Arabian Sea] (2020), written and directed by Priyadarshan. Shetty last appeared in A Gentleman (2017) starring Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez.

The actor will play a 16th century warrior in the Malayalam historical war film. The period film is set in 16th century India and tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, played by Mohanlal, a naval chief who protected the coast from the Portuguese.

The film’s Twitter handle revealed Shetty’s look. Filming is underway now at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.

Shetty has worked with Priyadarshan previously on five films — Hera Pheri (2000), Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar (2001),  Hulchul (2004),  Chup Chup Ke (2006), De Dana Dan (2009). He made a special appearance in two other films, Kakkakuyil (2001) and Kyon Ki… (2005), directed by him.

The big-budget period film is due to be released in four languages, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Besides Mohanlal and Shetty, Marakkar also stars Prabhudeva, Fazil and Keerthy Suresh.

Besides Marakkar, Shetty is also slated to star in the Kannada film Pailwaan with actor Sudeep.
