Emraan Hashmi had announced the spy-thriller Captain Nawab as the first production under his banner, Emraan Hashmi Films Pvt. Ltd and a poster was also unveiled. However, now the film has been shelved.
Cinestaan.com spoke to Hashmi yesterday (12 December) and the actor-producer confirmed that the film is not happening. As per a source, Hashmi was struggling to get investors for the film and therefore decided to can the project.
In February this year, Deccan Chronicle, a daily, had reported that given its sensitive subject, the film’s makers were seeking clearance from the defence ministry.
“We had finished our first schedule, but we will shoot portions of the film featuring the Indian army now. So, we needed the ministry to give us a No Objection Certificate. It should come either by the end of this month or in the first week of March. Then, we would be good to go,” director Tony D’Souza had informed the daily.
Captain Nawab was to be based on a double agent, played by Emraan Hashmi. The agent’s plot is busted and he is then chased by both India and Pakistan.
While Captain Nawab has been shelved, Hashmi is keenly awaiting the release of the Netflix original series Bard of Blood, that is based on author Bilal Siddiqi’s book of the same name.
Hashmi stated that the web-series, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, should be out next year. “I’m shooting for it. It should be done sometime next year. I don’t know the exact release date but it is an exciting one,” he said.
