Sonchiriya delays release, shifts to 1 March

It looks like we have to wait a little longer to see actor Sushant Singh Rajput and actress Bhumi Pednekar go gritty in filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya, which moved it release date from 8 February to 1 March.

The makers announced the delay today on Twitter. Sonchiriya is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies.

The film’s delayed release is puzzling. There was no other Hindi movie releasing opposite Sonchiriya on 8 February but it will going up against Dibakar Banerjee’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2019) and Laxman Utekar’s Luka Chhupi (2019) which are already scheduled to be released on 1 March.

Both the above films are romances, while Chaubey’s film is a dacoit drama, set in the Chambal valley, with an ensemble cast that also features Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey, Ashutosh Rana, Amit Sial besides Singh Rajput and Pednekar.

It remains to be seen which film will jump to grab that empty weekend spot on 8 February now.
