Shonali Boses’s The Sky Is Pink set for 11 October release

Shonali Bose’s tentatively titled film, The Sky is Pink, now has an offical release date. The film will be out in theatres on 11 October 2019.

Produced by RSVP Movies and Roy Kapur films, it features Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra and Zaira Wasim in the lead roles.

The Sky Is Pink is based on the life of the late Aisha Choudhary. Born with an immuno-deficiency disorder, Choudhary became a motivational speaker and a published author in her teenage years. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 19

In a Facebook post in August 2018, Bose had revealed how the parents of Aisha, Aditi and Niren Choudhary, had approached her for the film. The director revealed that Aisha had seen the trailer to Bose’s Margarita With A Straw (2015) and had expressed the wish to see the film. Unfortunately, she passed away before the film was released.

“Not only because my film was Aisha’s dying wish, but because I had lost a child too. Their own son’s name is also Ishan. I felt my spine tingle and knew the Universe was calling out to me. I had to go to the depths of my own pain and euphoria about death and write this story,” Bose wrote on her Facebook page.

Zaira Wasim plays the role of Aisha, while Akhtar and Chopra essay the role of her parents.

Just like Bose’s last film Margarita With A Straw, which premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, The Sky Is Pink is expected to do the rounds of film festivals before its theatrical release.

The team wrapped up the third schedule of The Sky Pink in late November last year, just before Chopra tied the knot with Nick Jonas.

Akhtar and Chopra had last shot for the film in Delhi and London, and the two will resume the final schedule of the film on 1 March. The last schedule will be a seven-day stint in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, followed by a few days of shoot in Mumbai.

Bose’s film will mark the return of Chopra to Hindi films after a break of four years. Her last film was the Prakash Jha directed Jai Gangaajal in 2016. Her last release was the Hollywood romantic comedy, Isn’t It Romantic, which came out on 13 February.

The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures and the American company, Ivanhoe Pictures, which had produced last year’s smash hit, Crazy Rich Asians.
