Ranveer Singh’s ’83 to be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu

’83, the film based on Indian cricket team’s historic victory at the 1983 cricket World Cup, will be released in three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Actor Ranveer Singh will be seen as Indian captain Kapil Dev in the film that will become the first of Singh’s films to be released in three languages.

Confirming the news, producer Reliance Entertainment told digital news portal Scroll.in in a statement: “It’s [a trilingual] a first for [director] Kabir Khan and Ranveer. Indian cricket team’s heroic win at the 1983 World Cup is a story to be presented across boundaries, hence the idea and reason to shoot for Tamil and Telugu versions simultaneously.”

Dev had led the underdog India to a famous victory against the almighty West Indies in 1983. The Indian squad had a few players from down south. Swashbuckling opening batsman Kris Srikkanth hailed from Tamil Nadu, while Roger Binny and Syed Kirmani both played for Karnataka.

’83 will be released on 10 April 2020.
