Contrary to recent news reports, sources close to actor Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera have confirmed that the film has not been shelved.
“Shamshera is on schedule. In fact, as we speak, the shoot is taking place in Film City, Goregaon. I have no idea where this speculative news has come from. There is no delay and the film will release as scheduled [31 July 2020],” said the source. Another source concurred that the film is not shelved and the shoot is very much on.
Yash Raj Films had announced Shamshera on 6 May last year when it released the first teaser. Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera is a period dacoit drama with Kapoor playing the titular character, while Sanjay Dutt plays the villain.
Kapoor’s Brahmastra has taken a while to be shot that has seen the film now being pushed for a Christmas 2019 release. The delay in Brahmastra has invariably had an impact on Kapoor’s other projects too.
Interestingly, Kapoor was signed on for Luv Ranjan’s film with Ajay Devgn much after Shamshera was announced. After wrapping up Brahmastra, Kapoor was expected to take up the Ranjan film. Last year, a source had told us that the Ranjan film could go on the floors in January 2019.
Speaking to Cinestaan.com, the source said, “There is no word yet on when the Luv Ranjan film will go on the floors. Ranbir has been shooting for Shamshera. So, I guess we’d have to wait once the date is sorted out.”
