Rajkummar Rao, Anurag Kashyap tweet support to Gulaal actor Savi Sidhu

Actor Rajkummar Rao has tweeted in support of actor Savi Sidhu who had to take up the job of a building watchman to make ends meet.

Sidhu had worked in Anurag Kashyap’s films Black Friday (2007) and Gulaal (2009). He has since struggled to get work in the industry and took up a 12-hour job as a watchman. Sidhu’s plight was highlighted in a video by Film Companion on its Youtube channel.

Alarmed by the plight of Sidhu, Rajkummar tweeted that he would ask his “casting friends to reach out to you”.

“Very inspired by your story #SaviSidhu sir. Have always admired ur work in all your films. Love ur positivity. Will def ask all my casting friends to reach out to you. Perseverance is the key to overcoming obstacles,” Rao tweeted.

Despite his struggles, Sidhu is upbeat about changing his situation in the future.

“I am highly influenced by Amit ji and Dharam ji. But people told me that I will have to make my own identity. Isliye fir bhoot utar gaya… Now, I am working as a watchman at a building in Malad with a hope that my bank balance will increase and they (filmmakers) will give me a chance. I know they will not say no. I have always received a positive response from them.” Sidhu told Film Companion.

Director Kashyap lauded Sidhu for his dignity. “There are so many actors out there who don’t have work. I respect Savi Sidhu as an actor and have cast him thrice when he earned the role. I respect him that he chose to live his life with dignity and picked a job unlike so many entitled out of work actors who have either [sic],” tweeted Kashyap.

Sidhu was part of supporting cast of Gulaal where he played Dilip Kumar Singh’s (Raj Singh Chaudhary) elder brother. In Black Friday, Sidhu played police commissioner AS Samra. His third role in Kashyap’s film is not clear.
