Soham Chakraborty, Tanushree Chakraborty and Payel Sarkar will feature in Raja Chanda’s next film titled Harano Prapti. According to the director, the film narrates the story of rape victims and attempts to raise a voice against the rapists who often escape punishment.
Known for remaking films from the Southern film industries, Chanda is set to direct his own story for the second time after Kidnap (2019). “We read news of rapes almost every day in the newspapers. I am trying to protest against the heinous act through this film,” the director told the Ananda Bazar Patrika newspaper.
Padmanabha Dasgupta has written the story which is said to be based on true events. Tanushree Chakraborty plays a victim, Maya, while Soham essays the role of her rescuer, Mainak. Sarkar, on the other hand, will play Mainak’s girlfriend Namrata.
“Apart from comedy films, I have also worked in films based on serious issues with Raja before,” said Soham, who teams up with the director for the sixth time. “The story of this film is exceptional. We see in the story how criminals sometimes escape.”
Tanushree will be working with Soham for the first time. To prepare for the role, she has spoken to several victims and watched documentaries. “Society itself is the biggest inspiration for an artiste,” said the actress.
Sarkar’s character has various shades. According to her, Namrata is an urban working girl and her moral grounds are strong.
Arindam Ganguly, Sourav Das and Madhumita Chakraborty will also be seen playing important characters in the film.
