PV Sindhu, Nandan Nilekani, Rahul Dravid attend Ranveer-Deepika’s regal wedding reception in Bengaluru

It was a regal affair as the who’s who of Bengaluru city arrived at The Leela Palace to attend the reception for Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The couple arrived in the city days after their high profile wedding in the tourist town of Lake Como, Italy on 14 November.

The guest list of the Padmaavat (2018) stars included a veritable who’s who of the city from industrialists Nandan Nilekani and wife, Rohini Nilekani, Infosys chairperson Sudha Murty and Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.

Deepika’s father Prakash Padukone’s sporting heritage ensured the presence of the city’s awarded badminton champions in PV Sindhu and former coach, Pullela Gopichand, attending the reception. Former India cricketer Anil Kumble was also a guest at the event with his family. Kumble was joined by former teammates Rahul Dravid and Venkatesh Prasad at the reception.

Olympian Abhinav Bindra was late, but made it to the reception in Bengaluru.

The main event took place in The Colonnade, the banquet hall of The Leela Palace, which was decorated in regal fashion with two throne like chairs for the couple, and a huge decoration of red flowers providing the backdrop.

The couple’s fashion has been the talking point since before the wedding, and they did not disappoint. Deepika was dressed in a pale gold saree, complimented by her emerald green jewellery. Ranveer Singh ever ostentatious, chose a regal black and gold bandhgala designed by Rohit Bal for the evening.

The cuisine on offer included a wide range, from Vietnamese, Thai, Italian, Chinese and, of course, South Indian.

The reception is the first of several that the couple is hosting for their friends and closed ones in India. Following the Bengaluru event, Deepika and Ranveer are expected to return to Mumbai where they will host another reception on 28 November. Speculation also abounds over another party for friends in the city later in December.
