Srijit Mukherji and SVF Entertainment Pvt Ltd released the poster of Gumnaami on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 122nd birth anniversary yesterday. The film is based on the mysterious Gumnaami Baba, who, Bose reportedly spent the last days of his life as in the northern part of the country.
Gumnaami will have Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead role. The poster in sepia tone has a mysterious aura about it. Gumnaami is shown to be sitting with his face towards a wall filled with newspaper cuttings on Bose’s various international adventures and undertakings on his way to free India from the clutches of the British.
There is also a locked suitcase and a lantern that emits the yellow light that lends the tone of the poster. The presence of the locked suitcase perhaps refers to the several notes and documents that were found after the death of Gumnami Baba.
While it was widely circulated that Bose died in a plane crash from Taiwan in 1945, many believed that he returned to India in disguise and stayed secretly in Uttar Pradesh. After his death, people discovered strong connections with Bose and the people he knew before his rumoured death in various notes and documents. Bose’s niece Lalita Bose, too, insisted on a personal inquiry and was convinced that Gumnaami Baba was none other than Bose. However, neither the UP nor the central government showed interest in unearthing the mystery.
As the poster depicts Gumnaami smoking a pipe, it suggests that he is no ordinary man.
Gumnaami is slated to be released in January 2020.
