Producer Vinay Sinha’s daughter Priti has rubbished claims that a sequel to Rajkumar Santoshi’s comic caper Andaz Apna Apna (1994) is on the cards.
“All news on #AndazApnaApna sequel or remake, etc is false…no actor approached or script finalised…when my father #vinaysinha the producer of the film decides to make the film, he will announce it..patience is the name of the game,” Sinha posted on her Facebook page.
Entertainment portal Pinkvilla.com reported on 18 January that a sequel is on the cards with producer Sinha approaching actors Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan for the lead roles that were essayed by Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in the original.
Andaz Andaz Apna was a comedy of errors also featuring Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. Though not a commercial success, the film would go on to achieve cult status. Kapoor achieved fame for his portrayal of the goofy villain Crime Master Gogo, while Rawal had a double role — Baja and his brother.
Dhawan has recently wrapped shooting for Kalank and he is expected to shoot for Remo D’Souza’s untitled next film. Singh has his plate full with Kabir Khan’s ’83 and Dharma Productions Takht.
Singh and Dhawan were earlier tipped to come together for the remake of Subhash Ghai’s Ram Lakhan (1989) that was to be helmed by Rohit Shetty. However, that project has not materialised so far.
