Actresses Mindy Kaling and Priyanka Chopra are coming together for an upcoming film revolving around weddings. The rights for the film were bought by Universal Pictures. The news of the deal was first reported by Deadline.com and the actresses both confirmed the news on their social media accounts.
Kaling dubbed their collaboration the “dream team” on Instagram.
While Chopra elaborated in her Instagram post, “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and #dangoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and Indian. See you at the cinema!”
The untitled comedy which will feature both Kaling and Chopra is set in India and the US around an Indian wedding. Kaling will co-write the feature with Dan Goor, co-creator and executive producer of American television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Online magazine Deadline reports that the Hollywood actress-filmmaker Kaling has the option to direct the film as well.
Kaling and Chopra are co-producing the film with Goor and Howard Klein.
Kaling seems to be booked for the rest of 2019. Her next production, the comedy Late Night (2019) starring Emma Thompson and Kaling, is due to be released on 7 June. She has adapted the popular British film, Four Weddings And A Funeral (1994) into an anthology mini-series for Hulu. It will premiere on 31 July. She is also writing and producing a Netflix series about an Indian-American teenager.
Chopra recently starred in the Hollywood film Isn’t It Romantic and her next Hindi film, The Sky Is Pink (2019), with Farhan Akhtar, is expected to release later this year. Last year it was announced that Chopra and Chris Pratt would star in Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking to be directed by Michelle MacLaren. However, the American studio has delayed the film indefinitely, with no further word on its status.
