Meghna Gulzar shares first ‘splash’of her upcoming film, Chhapaak

Director Meghna Gulzar shared the first images of the ongoing preparation for her next film, Chhapaak. The film marks the debut of Deepika Padukone as a producer, and will also have her in the lead role.

Based on the life of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, the film is likely to tell the horrifying story of the attack and her courage to survive.

With a dupatta with splotched holes, the cloth seems to signify the key moment of the attack. The acid holes in the cloth certainly leave a lasting imprint, and make for a good start.

Padukone had revealed her joining the team back in December 2018, when she shared a tweet about the project.

While she had only one release in 2018 in Padmaavat, it proved to be one of the biggest ones of Padukone’s career. Meanwhile, Meghna delivered a successful 2018 as well with the hit, Raazi (2018), featuring Alia Bhatt.

On Padukone’s announcement, Meghna had said, “I’m grateful and encouraged that she was so spontaneous in her decision to do the film. When you take a face as beautiful as hers and portray her as an acid attack survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding.”

While it was speculated that the film will be released in mid-March 2019, there has been no specific date announced for the project.
