Mardaani 2 goes on the floors, Rani Mukerji to tackle a 21-year-old villain

Actress Rani Mukerji started shooting for Mardaani 2 on Tuesday (26 March). The film is the sequel to her 2014 hit action flick, Mardaani. The second part will also be produced by her husband Aditya Chopra under his production house, Yash Raj Films.

However, there is a change in the director this time. The first film was helmed by Pradeep Sarkar. Mardaani 2 will be the directorial debut of Gopi Puthran. He was the writer and associate director of Mardaani. He had also written the story, screenplay and dialogues for Sarkar’s Lafangey Parindey (2010), produced under the same banner.

Mardaani saw Mukerji, as Senior Inspector of Crime Branch, Mumbai, tackle the menace of child trafficking. She was pitted against the villain played by Tahir Raj Bhasin. She will move higher in the ranks in Mardaani 2. Her nemesis this time around will be much younger.

“Rani will be seen as a Superintendent of Police who is locked in a vicious battle with a 21-year-old merciless villain. Rani will be locked in a game of cat and mouse with the villain who is extremely clever and knows no mercy or empathy,” said an official statement from the producers.

The release date of Mardaani 2 is yet to be announced.
