Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on launching Narendra Modi biopic

The official announcement of a biopic on India’s prime minister Narendra Modi and the launch of the film’s poster took place today in Mumbai.

Titled PM Narendra Modi, the film will see Vivek Oberoi play the prime minister.

Vivek Oberoi’s father, veteran actor Suresh Oberoi, is co-producing the film while Omung Kumar will direct it.

This will be Omung Kumar’s third biopic after Mary Kom (2014) and Sarbjit (2016).

Speaking at the event, Vivek Oberoi said the film makes him feel like a newcomer. “I think I am extremely fortunate,” the actor said. “Today I am feeling like how I felt 16 years ago when I had started my career during my Company (2002) days. I am feeling the same excitement and hunger because this kind of a role is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any actor.”

The actor also believes the film will help him personally. “At the end of this journey, I hope and pray that I become a better actor and human being because of the inspiration this film is all about,” he said.

Given the political content and context, the film’s poster was launched by Maharashtra’s chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who proclaimed his presence at the event ‘historic’.

“I am a part of this history,” Fadnavis said. “I consider myself fortunate that you have chosen me for this programme because when this film will reach the people, one page of history will mention that I had been for the poster launch,” he gushed.

The rest of the film’s cast and other details are currently under wraps.
