Madhuri Dixit’s first film as producer has an undercurrent of thrill

The Marathi movie 15 August is actress Madhuri Dixit’s first film as a producer. While the film does take place on 15 August, amid Independence Day celebrations, there is a love story at the core of it.

The story takes place on 15 August in Gandhi Chawl in Mumbai where the residents are excitedly preparing for the Independence Day function. But Sulbha (Mrunmayee Deshpande) and Raju (Rahul Pethe) are going through a personal battle. They are in love, but Sulbha’s marriage is fixed by her parents with an NRI (Adinath Kothare).

Sulbha and Raju decide to elope and get married on Independence Day. However, an unusual problem emerges when the ring Raju brought for his girlfriend gets stuck inside a hole.

The subject of the film is novel. Along with romance, there is an undercurrent of thrill as the lead couple decides to elope on the day when, as said in the film, one has the freedom to do anything. The scenario of the chawl is real and relatable.

The film also stars Renuka Shahane. She was also a part of Bucket List (2018), Dixit’s first Marathi film as an actor.

15 August will be released on Netflix on 29 March. The film is directed by Swapnaneel Jaykar, but strangely his name does not appear in the trailer.
