Loverboy Kartik Aaryan keeps gazing at Kriti Sanon’s photo

In 2016, T-Series had launched Punjabi singer Karan Sehmbi’s romantic single ‘Photo’. The music label has now recreated a version for producer Dinesh Vijan’s Luka Chuppi, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon. The ‘Photo Song’ was unveiled today at a college in Mumbai.

A Punjabi song in a film that is set in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh might seem strange. But Punjabi songs are popular, especially in the north and central India. ‘Photo’ was a hugely popular single getting over 40 million views.

The original is composed by Goldboy and crooned by Sehmbi. The lyrics were penned by Nirmaan.

The recreation ‘Photo Song’ is a fine, soothing romantic number. The recreation is done by remix king Tanishk Bagchi, but the composer doesn’t tinker much with the original.

A few Hindi lines have been added to simplify the lyrics for the Hindi listeners. The visuals, though, speak for themselves.

Guddu (Aaryan) is smitten by Rashmi (Sanon) and he can’t help keep looking at her picture which he took discreetly, as Rashmi played with the neighbourhood kids.

The USP of the original song was the lyrics, Goldboy’s soothing music, and the flawless singing of Sehmbi. The core rhythm remains the same, but the Luka Chuppi track is more mellow.

Similarly, Sehmbi emotes more passion in the original than in the remake.  That’s not to suggest that the remake is below par. Barring few lyrics and tunes, Bagchi retains the soul of the original.

Luka Chuppi will be released on 1 March.
