Director Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, that released on 7 December, had to face competition from the holdover release, 2.0, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. Surprisingly, the fervour around 2.0 soon faded out. However, Kedarnath, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan, finds itself competing with the Hollywood superhero film Aquaman in its second week.
As reported by Boxofficindia.com, Kedarnath earned Rs2.50 crore nett on its second Friday (14 December), takings it India business so far to Rs44.50 crore nett. Made at an estimated budget of Rs60 crore, the romantic film had released in over 1,850 screens across India.
Produced by RSVP, the inter-religious love story is set in the backdrop of 2013 Kedarnath flash-floods and also marks the debut of Sara Ali Khan, daughter of Saif Ali Khan and his former-wife Amrita Singh.
Hollywood’s Aquaman fetched Rs2 crore through paid previews (on 13 December) and earned an impressive Rs5.50 crore nett on its opening day (14 December) in India. The film, directed by James Wan, released in 800 screens across India.
