The release of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 has been postponed. Actor Hrithik Roshan tweeted the confirmation that he has asked the makers of the film, Reliance Entertainment, to look for a new date to avoid ‘personal trauma and toxic mental violence’.
The actor put out a statement on social media.
In his statement, Hrithik wrote, ‘So as to not allow my film to be desecrated by yet another media circus, I have decided to shift the release date of my film Super 30 in order to save myself from the personal trauma and toxic mental violence this would cause.’
While a fresh date has not been announced yet, Hrithik wrote, ‘Despite the film being ready, I have requested my producers to shift and announce the next suitable date as soon as possible.’
The film was initially scheduled for release on 26 July. However, Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures decided to release the Rajkummar Rao- and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Mental Hai Kya on the same day.
Given the recent bad blood between Hrithik and Ranaut, Ekta Kapoor also put out a message on social media that her production house would look to ensure a ‘dignified release’. However, she later also shared her disappointment on social media regarding some ‘negative PR campaigns’ in the media.
This led Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, to take to Twitter to launch a scathing attack against Hrithik Roshan. Accusing the actor and his PR manager of spinning a ‘negative campaign’ around Mental Hai Kya, Chandel said, ‘Jitna tu aur tera PR Kangana ko giraega utna he woh teri maregi…. [The more you and your PR team attack Kangana, the more she will hit back]. So far it wasn’t her concern magar ab tu dekh… [now you watch out] Jadoo.’
Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut have been involved in a public spat since late 2016. The actress accused Hrithik of mentally torturing her after their rumoured relationship failed. Hrithik Roshan, on his part, has denied all of Ranaut’s allegations. The two were also involved in a short legal dispute on the same matter.
Incidentally, Super 30 was already involved in a controversy concerning its director Vikas Bahl, who has been accused of molesting a colleague during his time in the now-defunct production house Phantom Films. The revelation of this resulted in the dissolution of Phantom, with partners Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane parting ways with Bahl. Later, Shibashish Sarkar, CEO of Reliance Entertainment, had said that Bahl will not be credited for the film.
On the other hand, Ranaut herself is emerging from a spate of controversies, including the accusation of taking over her previous release, Manikarnika:The Queen Of Jhansi (2019), from the original director Krish.
