Well-known producer Guneet Monga, who recently won the Academy Award for documentary short film Period. End of Sentence., will be foraying into the Tamil market with the upcoming Suriya film.
In her interview to The Hindu, Monga confirmed signing Suriya’s next film with Sudha Kongara, who had helmed Saala Khadoos (2016). Monga will co-produce the film — currently called Suriya 38 — in association with 2D Entertainment.
She also went on to reveal that the film will be based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of budget airline Air Deccan.
News of Sudha’s film with Suriya has been doing the rounds for nearly two years now.
Suriya expressed interest to collaborate after he was mighty impressed by Irudhi Suttru, the Tamil version of Saala Khadoos. In early 2017, Sudha pitched a story idea which Suriya really liked. However, he immediately couldn’t work on the idea as he was already committed to Si3 (2017), Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018) and NGK (2019).
The makers are hopeful of releasing the film by this year-end or early next year, according to reliable sources.
GV Prakash Kumar has already been signed to compose music. Prakash had recently revealed that he has already completed composing songs for the film, which will be simultaneously shot and released in Telugu.
It remains to be seen what Monga’s association means to the project. Is there a possibility that the film could also be simultaneously shot in Hindi and Monga will take care of its release? Watch this space for more clarity on the matter.
