Actor Ranveer Singh seems to be well on his way to deliver a third successive Rs100-crore-plus film. Gully Boy, Singh’s latest release, made an impressive Rs8.50 crore nett on its first Monday, thereby taking its five-day business to Rs80 crore nett, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs75 crore, Gully Boy was released on over 4,000 screens in India.
Trade analyst Girish Wankhede told Cinestaan.com, “Gully Boy is a category breaker, an unconventional film. It talks about the underground music which is not a very popular genre… such a heartwarming, inspiring film. All credit goes to [writer] Reema Kagti and [director] Zoya Akhtar. And of course, some brilliant performances by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.”

Given its subject, Wankhede reckons the film will perhaps reach about Rs150 crore nett in domestic business. Gully Boy is inspired by the lives of hip hop artistes DIVINE and Naezy.
Fox Star Studios’ multi-starrer comic caper Total Dhamaal is set to be released this Friday (22 February). However, Wankhede expects Gully Boy to dominate in its second weekend too.
“Gully Boy and the other films that are working now, they are realistic cinema. Total Dhamaal may click because of the marquee big cast, but in the age of realistic cinema, the mindless comedies find it difficult to work,” added Wankhede.
