“This crime is not just heinous. It’s insanity,” says Shefali Shah’s character DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the newest Netflix series, Delhi Crime.
The first trailer of the anthology series reveals how the Delhi police picked up the pieces to solve the case of the gang-rape of a young Delhi woman and brought in the accused within 72 hours.
The show, directed by Ritchie Mehta, deals with the immediate aftermath, led by Shah and her team as they try to console a grieving family and bring justice to the victim, amidst growing outrage from the public as details emerge from the horrific act.
The show recreates an unsettling time in Indian history when citizens’ fury at the police and law was palpable.
Based on case files from the Delhi police and shot on location, Delhi Crime is a gripping look at the 2012 Nirbhaya case from the perspective of the police.
The series also stars Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain and Denzil Smith.
The digital series had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this January in the Indie Episodic section.
