Farhan Akhtar’s The Fakir Of Venice delayed yet again?

What was to have been Farhan Akhtar’s debut film as an actor, The Fakir Of Venice, is still to be released a decade after it was completed.

Multiple false starts later, It looked like The Fakir Of Venice was finally going to be released next week. While there have been no promotions, save for a trailer being released online, one hoped the long wait would finally end.

But the wait might just have got a little longer.

While there was no official confirmation till the time of publishing this report, a reliable trade source said the film’s release has now been pushed back to 8 February.

“The Fakir Of Venice is not coming next week,” the source told Cinestaan.com. “There are a host of films being released that day and so we are hearing that the makers have decided to push their film to 8 February.”

The film was shot before 2008. The story was conceived by Homi Adajania, with Rajesh Devraj writing the screenplay, and Anand Surapur directing. Farhan Akhtar plays a con man who hires a fakir (Annu Kapoor) to dupe the European art market. AR Rahman has scored the music.

Interestingly, The Fakir Of Venice was presented as the opening night film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in April 2009. But thereafter the film got mired in a production-related dispute.
