Early Life and Background
Elise Marie Stefanik was born on 2nd July 1984 to New York natives Melanie Stefanik and Ken Stefanik. Elise grew up in Albany, New York, where she attended the Albany Academy for Girls. After her graduation, she went on to attend Harvard University where she acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in government in 2006. During her days at Harvard, Elise actively participated in school politics which earned her a Women’s Leadership Award for her excellent leadership skills.
Political Career
Soon after her graduation from Harvard, Elise Stefanik started political her career during President Bush’s administration. At the time, she worked as a staff to the Domestic Policy Council. Afterwards, she served in the office of the White House Chief of Staff and as the communications director for the Foreign Policy Initiative.
During the 2012 US Presidential Election, Elise worked as a policy director for Tim Pawlenty who served as the 39th Minnesota Governor. She equally managed Paul Ryan’s debate preparation for the same election. After Ryan’s loss in the election, Elise returned to upstate New York to take care of her family’s plywood business in Guilderland Center.
In 2014, Elise declared her interest to represent New York’s 21st congressional district at the US House of Representative. She succeeded Bill Owens who served in that position from 2009 to 2012. Elise triumphed over Matt Doheny during the Republican primaries and later on, she won the main election.
Joining the Congress, Elise Stefanik became the youngest woman to be elected in American history. In 2016, she supported Donald Trump who later emerged as the POTUS while she was also re-elected to the Congress after her triumph over Democrat’s Mike Derrick and Green Party’s Matt Funicello.
