Actor turned producer Dev Adhikari and his real life partner actress Rukmini Maitra are going to pair up for Aniket Chattopadhyay’s next yet untitled film after he finishes the biopic on social worker Padma Sri Subhasini Mistry. The film will be a fantasy tale, inspired by noted author Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumdar’s two stories on Habu Chandra Raja and Gabu Chandra Mantri. The film is expected to go on floors in May 2019.
Adhikari and Maitra will be seen playing Raja and Rani. In an interview with the Times of India, a daily, the director said, “Yes I am penning the script. Tollywood [Bengali cinema] hasn’t seen too many fairy tales of late and we thought it’s a good idea to come up with one.”
“We grew up reading these fairy tales and I’m eagerly waiting to read the script,” said Maitra.
Earlier this year, Dev Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Chattopadhyay together announced another project on the trio revolutionaries Binay, Badal and Dinesh and the concept reportedly was sabotaged by many directors. Hence, the director decided to make the announcement early this time.
“It will be a period film with a roopkotha [fairy tale] feel to it. We will research extensively before we can go on floors. We wish to take the audience to the world of fantasy through the film,” explained Adhikari, the lead actor and the producer of the film. He has also stated that he would like Bratya Basu to play the character of Mantri (minister) in the film; however, the other actors have not been decided yet.
Adhikari is also planning to shoot the film in the sets of Baahubali, that has not been dismantled yet, in Mumbai. Debajyoti Mishra will be composing music for the film.
