Dalip Tahil to play Jawaharlal Nehru in Mahesh Manjrekar’s PL Deshpande biopic

Veteran actor Dalip Tahil essayed the character of India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), the biopic on India’s acclaimed track and field sprinter Milkha Singh. Later in 2014, he played Nehru in Shyam Benegal’s television series Samvidhaan (2014).

Now, Tahil is ready to play Nehru for the third time in Mahesh Manjrekar’s biopic on PL Deshpande, titled Bhaai: Vyakti Kee Valli.

“I am not starring in the film. It’s not a big role. It’s a part,” said Tahil while speaking to Cinestaan.com during the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai. Revealing how he was signed for the role, he said, “I and Mahesh were shooting for a web-series. One day he just offered me this role. I am thankful to him.”

Tahil is glad that he is finally making his Marathi film debut. “After these 40 years, I am doing my first Marathi film. Although I am speaking in Hindi, the film is in Marathi,” he said.

The actor spoke about his scene in the film, where Deshpande’s character meets Nehru. “There is an interesting moment when PL Deshpande was working in Akshwani Radio. That’s where he meets Nehru and they have a conversation,” Tahil informed.

Bhaai will have Sagar Deshmukh essay the character of Deshpande, while Iravati Harshe will play his wife Sunita.

The film has been made in two parts. The first one will be released on 4 January 2019, while the second one will hit the screens on 8 February 2019.
