Ayushmann Khurrana teams up with Anubhav Sinha for investigative drama, Article 15

After playing the common man and the boy next door, Ayushmann Khurrana looks to be adding some steel to his filmography with Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15. The actor’s first look from the film captures him as a dour policeman in Uttar Pradesh trying to solve a puzzle. Currently on the floors in Lucknow, the film will also feature Manoj Pahwa, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub among others.

The image also has Khurrana sporting a new look, with a moustache, that adds to the rustic, small-town feel of his character.

The title of the film, Article 15, refers to discrimination among children on the basis of race, sex, religion or caste. The Article 15 of the Indian Constitution prevents any such act of discrimination.

Sinha, whose last film Mulk (2018) garnered wide critical and commercial acclaim for its subtle handling of the communal divide, looks to have added another sensitive and current issue to his filmography.

Speaking about the film, SInha said, “It is an investigative drama where the audience too is an accused party. A very challenging film that needed an extraordinary actor like Ayushmann. Delighted to have him on board with an explosive bundle of such talented and acclaimed actors.”

Khurrana added by saying, “I’m always intrigued by the socio-political situation of our country. We hardly see films which present the situation in an unbiased way. Anubhav Sinha is one such director who understands the complexities of our country. I loved Mulk. It is the most balanced film based on communalism and extremism. And it will be an absolute pleasure to work with him on Article 15.”

Khurrana enjoyed a successful 2018 with Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho. The actor also has Dream Girl, alongside Nushrat Bharucha, lined up for the year.

Produced by Benaras Media Works, Article 15 has gone on the floors on 1 March.
