Arijit Singh sings this ode to Ajay Devgn-Rakul Preet Singh’s budding romance

Despite the age difference conflict that drives Akiv Ali’s De De Pyaar De, the music by Amaal Mallik is refreshingly light. The second song from the film, ‘Tu Mila To Haina’, is sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Mallik in a pop ballad style that is quite hummable.

The song’s visuals build on the excitement and romance of the new found love between the characters of Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh. From frolicking around romantic-looking streets overseas to cooking together, the visuals play on the familiar ideas of romance. What stands out is the awkwardness of Devgn’s character, borne out of his age and the consciousness of being viewed by people as old.

De De Pyaar De song: ‘Vaddi Sharaban’ Rakul Preet Singh gives you a high

The music, though, is refreshingly light. The composition follows a familiar trend of the rhythmic light pop, with a focus on harmony and melody. The lyrics by Kunaal Vermaa go well with the composition and have a play of words on ‘time’ lost in finding true love. Perhaps an allusion to the age difference between the characters?

Mallik uses Singh’s voice as his main canvas, with a chorus of electric guitars providing the fizz in the background. The drums serve as a rhythmic pattern to set a tempo, but it is Singh’s voice that stands out and brings the fun to the song.

De De Pyaar De will be in theatres on 17 May.
