Andhadhun earns an impressive Rs101 crore in 5 days

Director Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun (2018) is making good inroads in the Chinese market after a successful run in India.

The film, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte and Tabu, was released in India’s giant northern neighbour on 3 April and enjoyed a five-day first weekend.

The film made $14.50 million (approximately Rs101 crore at current exchange rates) in this period, according to figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

As per the website, the film has been sold in the Chinese market for a minimum guarantee of $800,000 (about Rs5.56 crore). Hence, the Chinese distributors and the film’s producers are expected to earn a windfall.

Andhadhun has already become the seventh highest grossing Indian film in China. The position was previously held by the Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), which had made $14.23 million (approximately Rs99 crore) in the country.

The sixth and fifth positions are held by the Aamir Khan-starrer PK (2014) and the Rani Mukerji-starrer Hichki (2018) which made $19.65 million (Rs137 crore) and $19.70 million (Rs137.3 crore), respectively. Andhadhun is expected to easily surpass those two.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017) currently hold the first two positions with mammoth numbers of $193.06 million (Rs1,345.2 crore) and $117.71 million (Rs820.2 crore), respectively.

In India, Andhadhun became a hit with a lifetime business of Rs73.37 crore, a surprise performance for a dark humour film.
