Alan Tudyk Will Return as K-2SO For Disney+’s Rogue One Prequel Show

Good news for all, the sassiest droid is Star Wars history is coming back to the screen. Disney has confirmed that Alan Tudyk will return as the wonderfully sharp-tongued K-2SO in the upcoming untitled Disney+ Rogue One prequel series. Tudyk joins previously announced returning castmember Diego Luna, who will reprise his role as Cassian Andor for the series.

And that certainly makes sense, after all K-2SO is Andor’s ride or die and #1 Boi, and the same could be said of Tudyk’s voice work for Disney, which includes almost all of the major branches with Wreck-it-Ralph, Frozen, Moana, Zootopia, Big Hero 6, some minor work in Phineas and Ferb, and the upcoming Aladdin remake. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tudyk’s name popping up a lot in the upcoming casting announcements as Disney+ continues to cast its new series.

There’s no shortage of great droids in the Star Wars universe. Of course we all love R2 and C-3PO, and lord knows BB-8 has stolen more than a few hearts since The Force Awakens, but even some of the more divisive titles in the recent Star Wars lineup, a la Rogue One and Solo have featured some scene-stealing droids. K-2SO was an instant hit and no doubt something of a marketing quandary since (years-old spoiler) he dies along with the rest of the heroes at the end of the film. Using the streaming service as a play to continue the most popular and interesting characters via prequel series is a super smart move. Now, we just gotta find a way to get Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s thirsty as hell and semi-self made L3-37 into the show — the timelines are close enough!

The untitled Cassian Andor series is one of two live-action Star Wars series in the works for Disney+, alongside Jon Favreau‘s The Mandalorian. That series is already in production and stars Pedro PascalGiancarlo EspositoEmily SwallowCarl WeathersOmid AbtahiWerner Herzog, and Nick NolteDave FiloniBryce Dallas HowardDeborah ChowRick Famuyiwa, and Taika Waititi have been recruited to direct episodes and, speaking of droids, Waititi will also voice the hunter droid IG-88. Where he ranks in the annals of the great Star Wars droids remains to be seen, but with Tudyk officially on board the Disney+ train, he’ll be in fine company.
