Ajay Devgn’s rom-com De De Pyaar De with Tabu, Rakul Preet Singh postponed to 17 May

Ajay Devgn’s upcoming romantic comedy, De De Pyaar De (2019), has now been postponed to the month of May. The film, featuring Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh, will release on 17 May. Directed by Akiv Ali, the film was earlier scheduled for a release on 15 March.

Reports suggest that the decision was taken to reduce the effect the film might have on another Devgn release, Total Dhamaal (2019). The Indra Kumar ensemble comedy features Devgn alongside Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor, among others. This film is set to release on 22 February.

The daily tabloid Mumbai Mirror quoted a source close to the development of De De Pyaar De saying, “It is not good for business to have two films featuring the same actor release within a span of 20 days.” The report quoted the key reason was to avoid ‘overlap of marketing campaigns’.

De De Pyaar De is one of several Devgn films scheduled for release this year. The actor is also set to play the Maratha warrior, Tanaji Malusare, in the biopic, Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior (2019) in November.

The decision to postpone De De Pyaar De will now see the film clash with Balaji Motion Pictures’ Jabariya Jodi (2019), featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra.

De De Pyaar De is Devgn’s first romantic comedy since Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011).
