After Thackeray and Manmohan Singh, Deendayal Upadhyay biopic gets its first look

Even as the buzz around Anupam Kher’s turn as former prime minister Manmohan Singh grows, there are reports of a new biopic entering the fray.

Manoj Giri’s Deendayal: Ek Yugpurush is based on the life and times of Deendayal Upadhyay, one of the leading lights of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jan Sangh, precursor of the currently ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The makers of the film shared the first look of their poster online today.

The poster also hints at one of the current controversies with the penchant of the current Uttar Pradesh government to rename places in the state, with Mughalsarai junction in the background. The station has been renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay junction as the Jan Sangh leader was found dead there in 1968. He was 51 at the time.

The film will also see 1980s actress Anita Raj make an appearance as Upadhyay’s sister.

Directed by Manoj Giri, the film is being produced by Arius Creatives and is expected to be released in 2019.
