Filmmaker Ashvin Kumar’s drama about a British-Kashmiri girl tracing her roots in Kashmir has landed a release date of 5 April. The drama was stuck without certification for eight months until the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) deemed it fit for a U/A certificate.
FCAT had suggested that the makers make a few cuts and incorporate disclaimers in the film. Now the film, starring Soni Razdan, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anshuman Jha, Maya Sarao and the filmmaker himself, will finally make its way to theatres next month.
In a statement, the filmmaker said, “It is a film made for young people all over India to connect with young people all over Kashmir, about the euphoria and hopefulness of being young -— an A certificate would have kept both these audiences away from each other. Now with the U/A certification, I am confident kids will come out with their hearts beating for Kashmir.”
Yesterday, the film’s first poster was released with the two young leads, Zara Webb and Shivam Raina.
Ashvin’s earlier film, Little Terrorist (2004), was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. He has also won two National Awards for his Inshallah Football (2010) and Inshallah Kashmir (2012), both set in Kashmir.
