Adinath M Kothare to play Dilip Vengsarkar in Kabir Khan’s ’83

Marathi film actor Adinath M Kothare is the latest cast member added in Kabir Khan’s 83. He will be playing the role of Indian yesteryear batsman Dilip Vengsarkar. The film is based on India’s cricket World Cup victory of 1983.

Vengsarkar was one of India’s frontline middle-order batsman in the 1970s and 1980s. He was one of the few batsman in the world, and the only Indian, to score three centuries at London’s iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. He retired in 1992.

Vengsarkar only played a couple of matches in the 1983 World Cup. He was selected in the playing eleven after a few matches. But he got injured in the league match against West Indies where he was batting well on 32.

Adinath’s last film was the appreciated TCGN Take Care Good Night (2018), where he played an antagonist to lead Sachin Khedekar. He is the son of well-known Marathi film director, actor and producer Mahesh Kothare. He had acted in his father’s directorial Zapatlela 2 (2013), which was the sequel of his own classic Zapatlela (1993). The third part of the film series is also underway.

Actor Ranveer Singh essays the lead character of India’s captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film, directed by Kabir Khan, is due to be released on 10 April 2020.
