Abundantia Entertainment picks up Vish Dhamija’s bestseller Rita Ferreira series

Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment has picked up Vish Dhamija’s bestselling Rita Ferreira series for a multi-season digital series. The production house will adapt the three novels, Lipstick, Bhendi Bazaar and Doosra, into a multi-season digital feature for an online platform.

Based in Mumbai, the series revolves around deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rita Ferreira battling her way through the world of crime in the city.

In a statement, Vikram Malhotra, CEO of Abundantia Entertainment, said, “Crime is a genre that viewers all over the world can’t get enough of. And when you add a unique and compelling central character to it, you have all the makings of gripping storytelling.”

“From the first time that we read Vish’s books, we knew that we had to bring Rita Ferreira to life. Flawed but fabulous, Rita is one-of-a-kind in a world full of cliches. A top-notch writers’ room is being put in place for this show as we aim to recreate and enhance the world of Rita Ferreira for her fans,” he added.

Describing his character, author Vish Dhamija said, “The tough-as-nails, sharp-as-a-tack, Jim Beam-drinking, female cop is not your conventional investigator. In a world dominated by male protagonists, many believed that Rita would not be accepted. But her popularity with readers across age groups and segments has proven otherwise.”

Abundantia Entertainment has backed films like Baby (2015), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Airlift (2018), among others. The studio is also preparing for the second season of the thriller series with Amazon, Breathe 2. Additionally, they have also signed on Akshay Kumar for a dystopian series,
