After returning to films this year with Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan (2018), actor Abhishek Bachchan has revealed his next project. He will be joining the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Breathe for its second season.
The actor is the latest to make the move to digital. Actors like Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and actresses like Swara Bhasker and Radhika Apte have already acted in shows like Sacred Games, It’s Not That Simple and Ghoul.
Bachchan revealed on Twitter that he would be making his “digital debut” with Breathe’s second season.
The first season of the series featured R Madhavan and Amit Sadh. Madhavan played a desperate father and football coach, Danny Mascarenhas, who turns to a life of crime to see that his ailing son Josh gets a lung transplant. Sadh played senior inspector Kabir Sawant who pursues Mascarenhas.
Sadh revealed that he will be reprising his role as Sawant for the second season, leading us to speculate that Bachchan might be stepping into playing a character with grey shades, like Madhavan did in season one.
The show, produced by Abundantia Entertainment, picked up two awards for Best Popular Web-Series and Best Popular Male Actor (for R Madhavan) at the 18th Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards earlier this month.
Director Mayank Sharma will return for the second season and writers Bhavani Iyer, Vikram Tuli and Arshad Syed have been named as well. There is no word yet as to when the second season will debut online.
