8 Indian films to be screened at Black Nights Film Festival 2018 in Estonia

Eight films from India, including Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan (titled Husband Material), Devashish Makhija’s Bhonsle, and Siddharth Malhotra’s Hichki will be screened at the Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. Hamid, Hello Arsi, Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon, Tumbbad, and Kadakh will also be shown at the festival.

Last year, five Indian films including Mukkabaaz (2018), Ajji (2018), Village Rockstars (2018), Buddha.mov and Love And Shukla were screened. Only Ajji, directed by Makhija, was part of the official selection.

This year, Rajat Kapoor’s Kadakh starring Ranvir Shorey, Mansi Multani, and the director himself is having its world premiere in the official selection. The film was dropped from the 20th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival after charges of sexual harassment against Kapoor emerged before the festival.

Sambit Mohanti’s Odia language film, Hello Arsi, will be shown in the First Feature Competition category. Anamika Haksar’s debut experimental film Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon will screen in the Rebels with a Cause section.

While Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan will be shown in the Signatures section alongside Jia Zhangke’s Ash Is Purest White (2018) and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters (2018).

Hamid will have its international premiere and Bhonsle will have a European premiere in the Forum section. Both films were screened at the 20th Mumbai Film Festival this October.

The fantasy-horror film Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, will be screened in the Midnight Shivers section with other keenly anticipated films like Gaspar Noé’s Climax (2018) and Luca Guadagnino’s 2018 remake of Suspiria, Dario Argento’s 1977 horror hit.

Finally, Malhotra’s Hichki (2018) starring Rani Mukerji as a teacher with Tourette syndrome will be shown in the JF (Just Film) Youth Programme International Competition.

The 22nd edition of the festival is being held from 16 November to 2 December 2018.
